Our Philosophy:

Northwest Neurological Specialists
--- Academic Excellence in a Compassionate Community Setting ---

At Northwest Neurological Specialists, we believe staying at the forefront of diagnosis and management of neurological disorders is paramount to providing the best quality, state-of-the-art care for our patients.

We understand the importance of tailoring our care to the needs of each individual patient and their families. Led by Dr. Deborah Syna, a Board-certified neurologist, our medical assistants and support staff have many years of experience in dealing with patients with nervous system diseases. Dr. Syna has been in practice serving the Portland community for ten years.

We are adept at negotiating with local insurers in order to provide the appropriate diagnostic testing and treatment needed by our patients. In addition, our web site is an excellent resource for patient educational materials, regional support groups, clinical trial information, and links to regional and national foundations. Our offices and exam rooms are pleasant, quiet, and comfortable and designed to accommodate individuals with handicaps.

With the many changes to the practice of neurology over the last twenty years – the advent of new neuroimaging techniques, management of previously untreatable diseases using new medicines, and a better understanding of the genetic causes of degenerative neurological disorders – our well-trained staff engage in ongoing professional development, including:

  • Maintaining board certification both in neurology and in subspecialty areas including electrodiagnostic testing and clinical neurophysiology
  • Participating in both regional and national professional organizations
  • An active continuing educational program
  • Dialoguing with local and national specialists
  • Support of hospital-based clinical care pathways, and disease-specific programming

In addition to serving the medical needs of the community, Northwest Neurological Specialists is a good corporate citizen, supporting Portland-area emergency shelters and senior programs, and working in partnership with the Portland Art Museum and the Providence Foundation.

Northwest Neurological Specialists strives to provide excellence in the care for people with neurological illness. We strive to provide the best health care to the community in which we live, and are grateful for the opportunity to serve.
